Very relaxing day trip from Sorrento

We were in Sorrento for a week and had done it all… this Pompeii tour was perfect! We got out of the city and got some extra culture in. The guide was very knowledgeable, and could answer all our questions; I literally wanted to know every detail of eruption day. The vehicle was also very pleasant and comfortable.

The Pompeii Tour from Sorrento is very worth it!

Sorrento is super close to Pompeii! It’s a very short drive, not even an hour long. Also, you enter the site immediately by skipping the line, which saves you at least an hour of useless waiting. The entire organization is very efficient. And obviously the site is amazing… it’s very beautiful, but also very humbling to see the ruins.

DESCRIPTION

Pompeii Tour from Sorrento

LEARN THE HISTORY OF POMPEII FROM YOUR GUIDE

After we drop you off in Pompeii, a guide will lead you through the ruins, teaching you the history of the site. Mount Vesuvius, a nearby volcano, erupted in 79 AD and destroyed the city. However, the resulting pumice and 4 to 6 meters of ash preserved Pompeii in the moment of eruption. This offers a unique snapshot into day-to-day Roman life unlike any other archaeological site.

EXPLORE THE RUINS OF ANCIENT ROMAN CITY

As you wander the streets of this ancient city, your guide will point out landmarks. You’ll see the Forum of Pompeii, the city’s center of political activity and trade, along with the three bathhouses: the Forum Baths, Stabian Baths, and Central Baths. Finally, your guide will show you the Amphitheatre of Pompeii: one of the world’s oldest amphitheatres, built around 70 AD.

SEE BEAUTIFUL FRESCOES AND PRESERVED RELICS

The volcanic ash conserved more than buildings - it also saved artwork and furniture! You’ll see several stunning frescoes, including one showing the fight between Pompeians and Nucerians in the amphitheatre. Others are more lighthearted, such as simply showing food for purchase. Your tour guide will also show you some amazingly intact wooden furniture, such as a chest and a cabinet with multiple doors.

REFLECT ON YOUR VISIT ON YOUR WAY BACK TO SORRENTO

Return to Sorrento in a modern, air-conditioned vehicle. As we drive you, all you need to do is relax, recall the incredible sights you saw, and reflect on everything you learned. Visiting this remarkable site is an unforgettable experience, and truly one of the best decisions you can make when you visit Amalfi Coast.

The surprisingly healthy teeth of Pompeii’s citizens

When Pompeii was rediscovered and excavated in the 1800s, the skeletal remains of its citizens were found. These remains revealed important details about their deaths, customs, and physical traits. The research was done by a team of experts, not just archaeologists. It included computer engineers, radiologists, doctors, historians, and orthodontists. By combining their skills, the team uncovered surprising information about the Pompeii victims.

One discovery was that their teeth were surprisingly healthy for their time. Using tomography, a technique that creates 2D images from 3D objects with a CT machine, scientists carefully studied the remains. They found only a few cavities, likely due to a lack of dental care. Overall, the Pompeii residents had very healthy teeth. This was likely because their diet was rich in fruits and vegetables and low in sugar. Another factor was the high levels of fluorine in the air and water, influenced by Mount Vesuvius.
