I felt like I was living in ancient Roman times

I had a lovely time on this day trip from Amalfi to Pompeii. The bus picked me up close to my hotel, and after the tour was over, they returned me to Amalfi. It was amazing to walk the streets of Pompeii, and I truly felt like I was experiencing life in ancient Roman times. I was surprised to see how well this archaeological site has been preserved. Our guide Marco was like a walking encyclopedia with great people skills and a talent for storytelling. I learned a lot about the devastating eruption of Vesuvius and the impact on the lives of Pompeii's citizens.

An awesome day trip to recommend!

Visiting the archaeological site of Pompeii was a dream come true, honestly. I guess I'm one of those stereotypical guys who thinks about the ancient Roman times at least once a day. My girlfriend sometimes teases me for it, so I've booked us this tour. I'm happy to say that she changed her views about ancient Rome, so now we both think about the Roman Empire at least once a day. Joking aside, this day trip was awesome, and I highly recommend it!

ARRIVING FROM THE AMALFI COAST

Take a seat in our comfortable minibus and meet your guide and fellow participants of the Amalfi to Pompeii Tour. The journey to the Pompeii archaeological site will take about an hour. During the ride, your guide will share key information about the history of Pompeii and the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenic views of the Amalfi Coast while learning fascinating facts about life in Roman times.

EXPLORING THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF POMPEII

As you reach the archaeological site of Pompeii, you'll benefit from a quick entry - just follow your guide through the gate and start exploring. The first thing you'll notice while walking the streets of Pompeii is the smooth and even pavement. It was made of perfectly arranged basalt stone blocks more than 2,000 years ago and is a testament to the level of engineering in Roman times. Your guide will take you to see some of the well-preserved mansions, such as the House of the Vettii and the House of the Faun. There you will find beautiful frescoes, including the famous Alexander Mosaic.

EXPERIENCE DAILY LIFE IN ROMAN TIMES

As you walk the streets of Pompeii, you will pass by numerous shops that were essential for citizens in ancient Roman times. You'll see bakeries, stalls, wine vendors, and even an ancient fast-food stand known as the thermopolium! Your guide will tell you about the types of food the citizens of Pompeii preferred as well as their dietary habits. Pompeii was a bustling trading city with lots of venues for entertainment such as taverns and bars. The city also had a "red-light district", and archaeologists uncovered more than 25 brothels. The most famous was the Lupanar, a large establishment with well-preserved erotic frescoes. Did you know that in Roman times prostitution was legal and socially acceptable? In fact, brothels such as the Lupanar were seen as typical shops offering services as any other shop.

VISITING THE THERMAL BATHS AND OTHER PUBLIC BUILDINGS

On this day trip to Pompeii, you’ll have the opportunity to explore some of its well-preserved public buildings. Walk through the heart of the city at the Forum and marvel at the majestic Basilica and temples dedicated to Jupiter and Apollo. Among the most popular public buildings in Roman times were the thermal baths, such as the Stabian Baths. Romans had a passion for these baths, enjoying hot, cold, and tepid water as part of their daily routine. Your guide will provide fascinating insights into the Roman obsession with thermal baths.
