I highly recommend the hiking Amalfi coast

I love hiking, especially in the mountains and hills near the sea, because it makes the scenery so different from where I am from. Our guide Giulio told us many stories about the ancient myths and local customs. For example, the islands of Li Galli that we saw in the distance are mentioned in Homer's epic, The Odyssey. We also met one of the locals who was passing there with his donkeys. If you want to experience something unique, I highly recommend the Hiking Amalfi Coast!

This hiking tour was spectacular!

My boyfriend and I spent a wonderful week on the Amalfi Coast and visited so many beautiful places. One of the highlights of our vacation was hiking the Amalfi Coast. The views are simply spectacular, with the blue sea on one side and green, steep hills on the other. The air is scented with mountain plants and flowers mixed with the breeze from the sea. The guide gave us trekking poles so the descent wasn't too hard on our knees. The hiking trail itself is not that difficult, but as long as you wear sturdy shoes, you'll be alright. If you're ever in Amalfi, go explore this hiking trail; you won't regret it!

DESCRIPTION

Path of the Gods Guided Tour

MEETING POINT AND CHOOSING THE ROUTE

When you reach the meeting point in Sorrento, you will meet your guide and fellow hikers. As you board the comfortable coach, your guide will tell you what you can expect on the hiking trail. There are two possible routes to hike the Path of the Gods, and your guide will choose which one your group takes. The decision is made based on the weather conditions, traffic, and season of the year. The routes are certified as moderately difficult, but the spectacular views they offer are well worth the effort.

A GENTLE DESCENT WITH BREATHTAKING VIEWS

During the Hike Amalfi Coast, you'll be descending gently from the mountains toward the cliffs near Nocelle above the sea. This doesn't mean that you'll always be descending, as there will be a few uphill sections as well. The trail itself consists of stone and dirt paths as well as mule tracks, and you'll receive trekking poles so that the hike is more enjoyable. Be prepared for the breathtaking views as you admire the natural beauty of the Amalfi Coast.

AMALFI COAST HIKING - NEXT LEVEL OF SIGHTSEEING

This coast hiking experience will take you to the next level of sightseeing. The views you'll be able to enjoy are so stunningly beautiful that the guide will surely advise you to mind your step. However, don't worry—you won't miss anything, as there will be many breaks and pauses along the way. As you glance down at the sea, you'll be surprised how crystal clear it is; you'll be able to see the seabed. In the distance, you'll also be able to spot the island of Capri, known for its natural beauty.

MEET LOCAL SHEPHERDS AND FARMERS

As you'll see on the Hiking Amalfi Coast experience, the traditional way of life still exists in this part of Italy. Don't be surprised if you run into an old shepherd with his herd grazing on the vegetation. One of the stops on the Path of the Gods guided tour will be a simple mountain cottage house where you will rest and have a bite to eat and a glass of wine. Taste the simple life of the mountain dwellers, shepherds, and villagers who remain loyal to the traditional way of life.

ARRIVING AT NOCELLE AND A VIEW OF POSITANO

Follow your guide downward as you reach Nocelle, a small village above Positano and the end of the famous Path of the Gods hiking trail. Nocelle sits high on the cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Take a moment to admire Positano, with its pastel houses cascading down the cliffside into the sea. After the hike, you can unwind with a Positano Cooking Class, learning local recipes in a relaxed setting. Or, if you’re up for more action, continue straight to history with a Pompeii tour from Positano.

Why is this hiking trail called the Path Of The Gods?

While returning from the Trojan War, the Greek hero Odysseus and his crew had a close encounter with the sirens near the Li Galli Islands. Seeing that the hero was in trouble, the gods rushed to help him. It is believed that they were coming down from the mountain along the hiking trail which you will traverse.

During the Hiking Amalfi Coast Tour, your guide will point out the tiny Li Galli Islands where Odysseus almost met his end!

FAQ - Hiking Amalfi Coast

When is the best time of year to hike the Path of the Gods?

The Path of the Gods is popular throughout the year, but it is best enjoyed during the spring and early autumn months. In the spring, the flowers are in full bloom, and natural beauty is simply breathtaking. The autumn is also a good time to go on this hiking trail, as you'll have the benefit of mild temperatures and seeing the late-blooming wildflowers. Also, you can expect fewer crowds!

What should I take with me to the Hiking Amalfi Coast guided tour?

We recommend you wear hiking boots or some other sturdy shoes appropriate for hiking. You should definitely not attempt to go on this hiking trail wearing flip-flops, for example! Should you decide to join us during the summer season, be sure to bring plenty of water, some sunscreen, and a hat. If you decide to visit during the autumn or spring, be sure to pack a lightweight rain jacket. Also, have your smartphone charged so that you can use a navigation system like Google Maps, just in case.

How hard is the Path of the Gods hiking trail?

The Path of the Gods hiking trail is considered to be moderately difficult and shouldn't be a problem for a fit, healthy person to undertake. That being said, the Path of the Gods is a proper mountain trail and not just a tourist attraction. To aid you in this hiking adventure, you will be given trekking poles, which will protect your knees from too much stress.

How long does the Hiking Amalfi Coast guided tour take?

From the meeting point in Sorrento to the end of the Path of the Gods hiking trail, we estimate roughly 5 hours. The route itself takes about 3 hours, but there will be pauses and stops along the way.

Are there any other unique Amalfi experiences but in a less active and adventurous setup?

Yes, there are highly recommended fun, yet authentic experiences you may also wish to book, whether you're visiting with friends, alone or with family. Depending on your plans, you can book a Cooking Class experience or go on a relaxing Amalfi Coast Wine Tour.  For something truly local, consider the Sorrento Lemon Tour, a limoncello tasting in Sorrento, or even a wine tasting in Sorrento. If you’d like to combine relaxation with a touch of activity, Amalfi Coast kayaking is a great choice. And of course, no trip would be complete without visiting Pompeii — you can easily do so with a Pompeii tour from Sorrento.
