Amazing tour with a fantastic guide!

Our Amalfi guided walking tour was absolutely incredible, thanks to our guide, Luigi! He told us many interesting facts about the Sant’Andrea cathedral which was for me the highlight! We loved our free time at Paradiso cemetery, it was so relaxing. Highly recommend booking this tour if you wish to learn more about Amalfi and its tradition.

Private Amalfi experience well worth booking

So glad I went on this private tour! It gave me a full insight into Italian culture and history. We booked the earliest time slot so we successfully escaped the heat, hehe. The Arab style of Amalfi cathedral is so unique, even more beautiful in person! And I highly recommend buying Limuncello in one the alleys, you have them literally on every corner!

DESCRIPTION

Amalfi Coast Walking Tour

START YOUR ADVENTURE

After you meet your tour guide at Flavio Gioia Square, you'll head to Porta della Marina, an entrance to the old town of Amalfi. Don't miss an opportunity to take a photo of a ceramic panel at this entrance, crafted by master Renato Rossi, one of the founding fathers of the art of majolica on the Amalfi Coast. This unique art represents Amalfi's role as a crossroad between East and West.

SAINT ANDREW'S FOUNTAIN

As soon as you pass through the old Marina Gate, you'll find yourself in the heart of Amalfi's historical center. There, you'll see the beautiful Saint Andrew's Fountain which was built in 1760 from Carrara marble. The fountain originally stood at the foot of the cathedral steps, but was moved in the late 1800s to its current location.

VISIT CATHEDRAL OF SANT'ANDREA

Take some photos of the fountain, and then continue with a walk to the Cathedral of Saint Andrew. Admire its mix of Arab, Norman, Byzantine, and Baroque styles, topped off with a beautiful mosaic. The significance of the cathedral is primarily connected to the relics of Saint Andrew, who, according to tradition, was one of the first apostles along with his brother Simon Peter.

CLOISTER OF PARADISE CEMETERY

The next stop of the tour will be Chiostro del Paradiso, which was originally built as a cemetery for the noble families of Amalfi. In the inner part of the cemetery, you will see five amazing sarcophagi, representing: the kidnapping of Proserpina, the wedding of Peleo and Teti, Romulus and Remus being suckled by the she-wolf, the arms of the Favaro family, and the last one shows images of Jesus Christ. At the center of the cloister, you will find a wonderful garden in Arabic style where you can relax for a bit.

END A TOUR WITH A STROLL BY THE SEA

The tour will finish with a walk along the waterfront, where you'll have a chance to learn more about the Arsenale - an ancient shipyard where boats were once built and repaired. After saying goodbye to your guide, take some time to relax in one of the various restaurants or cafes, all offering beautiful views of the sea. However, one of our favorites that we highly recommend visiting is Amalfi Terminal Gastropub.

Did you know that the original facade of Amalfi Cathedral collapsed?

The front part of Amalfi Cathedral actually fell down in 1861 because of a big earthquake. The whole entrance area was damaged, so they had to rebuild it. When they fixed it up by 1891, they made it look even more glamorous than before, using Italian Gothic and Arab-Norman styles. If you wish to discover more interesting facts like this, we recommend going on this Amalfi walking tour!
